Liturgical Ministries

"Baptism and Confirmation empower all believers to share in some form of ministry. Althought the spectific form of participation in ministry varies according to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, all who share in this work are united with one another."

William J. Bausch

We welcome your participation in the following ministries:

Lectors - proclaim the Word of God with reverence and understanding. Volunteers should cultivate a love of God's Word through study and reflection and possess the ability to speak confidently, clearly and effectively. Training is required.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist (EMHC) - assist with the distribution of the Eucharist at weekend and Holy Day Masses. Some EMHCs take Communion to the homebound. Those who wish to serve in this ministry must be parishioners for at least one year and attend Mass weekly. Although an individual may express an interest in serving, he or she must be invited by the pastoral staff before they may be installed as EMHCs. All candidates must complete a one-day archdiocesan lead training program.

Altar Servers - assist the community prayer by their devout participation in the Mass and the assistance they provide to the priest and deacon. Servers must be graceful, attentive, reverent and dependable. Training is required. Boys and girls (3rd grade and above) and teens may serve at the altar.

Ushers - help create a welcoming atmosphere for parishioners and visitors by greeting people before Mass, seating parishioners, recruiting volunteers to carry the gifts at the offertory, taking up the collection, and ensuring an orderly flow during Communion.

Altar Guild - provide care for the linens used at Mass.

Arimatheans - provide care and support for families and individuals grieving the loss of a loved one. The Arimatheans assist at funeral Masses and are also present during viewings and wakes at the church.

Children's Liturgy of the Word - provides preschool aged children an opportunity to experience God's Word in a way that is meaningful for them. Twice a month two trained catechists join with the children in our parish meeting room (The Saint John Vianney Room) next to the church, where they talk about that Sunday's Gospel and enjoy crafts and activities that help them understand Jesus' message. The children rejoin their parents in church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
